Giving it a go

Giving it a go: beginning to pray

“whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Pray then in this way:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we also have forgiven our debtors.
And do not bring us to the time of trial,
But rescue us from the evil one.”

Matt 6:6-11 (NRSV)

Questions to ponder:

  • What was new about the way Jesus was asking us to pray?
  • What sort of things does he pray about?
  • What sort of things does he *not* say?
  • How might this change the way you pray?

Pray as you go

Pray as you go is a fantastic daily prayer resource that is a website and an app.  You can use it before you start work, or while out walking, wherever you are.  To hear the reflection for today, click the right date on the calendar.  It will download to your computer/phone and start playing after a pause.  You can also put the app on your phone to be able to use this whenever you want.
